Travesía Travesti

by Colectivo Locas, Putas y Brillantes

2021 | Santiago, Chile

A cabaret, with its performances and backstage life, comes to life in this multidisciplinary experience. The company Locas, Putas & Brillantes presents a political production that explores class and gender oppression.

Cabaret Travesía Travesti is a multimodal theatrical experience that blends theater, dance, performance, music, lighting, and design. The various actions unfold within a travesti cabaret, showcasing both what happens behind the scenes in the dressing rooms and the different acts presented on stage.

The production weaves together multiple thematic layers to bring the cabaret to life. While the most prominent theme addresses the issue of travesticides in Latin America, this serves as a framework to explore other topics. Through its different scenes, the play reveals the intersections of class and racial oppression, as well as the dynamics of sex and gender relations.
