Máscara: a lecture performance with a twist
Lecture party – 2025
(work in progress)
In this lecture performance, Pedro shares his personal need for masks. One that extends far beyond the joy of carnival. Masks become a queering of everyday life, a longing to dance to the rhythm of one’s own identity and reclaim space.
Drawing on Latin American masking traditions and moments such as attending an international conference in a rabbit balaclava, Máscara explores the mask as a queer tool for both seeking and claiming a place in the world.
The lecture gradually dissolves into music. During the performance, the audience receives a mask and is invited to join a rave: to dance, to feel, to explore what it means to dissolve one’s identity and, for a moment, be part of a new anonymous community that dances, breathes, and sweats together in masks. To try on a new face and discover that queering is not just resistance…it is movement, it is music!
